Whatever it Takes

Upside down, Round and round, so many ways love can be found--Black Oak Arkansas

Here's Jeff Merkley's latest tasty offering in the U.S. Senate campaign. Check it out.

It was predictable that a technically challenged hayseed like me could not pull off embedding a video.

Apoligies, and I hope someone can fix it, 'cause I can't.

    See you tomorrow.

Now, THAT was a great spot--even with the band that says "HOME, Posts, Comments...." in the middle of it.

Don't feel bad, Pat, I was able to click on the the sideways arrow and watch it, and I am glad I did.

When creating a political ad, it's always important to have a memorable feature, something that sticks in the viewers mind, a hook if you will....

    Clever, Glen, clever!

    No worries, it's fixed.

Good that they are fine and can laugh about it now.

Ironic that for all of the moral outrage from this campaign...that the driver of this car was cited for careless driving. A law breaker! On Merkley's staff! Given the purity and rectitude of Jeff, I have no doubt that he has been fired. No doubt Novick would have promoted the little criminal.

  • (Show?)

right idea, wrong execution. they need someone with the kind of silliness who could see Novick using himself as a bottle-opener. you know, the car rolling as Jeff keeps talking, but that's probably a special effects thing not possible even on a Mac.

Cool enough ad, but Merkley needs to find his own style. This ad comes across (to me) as saying "Look.. I can be light hearted and clever, too." Novick's ads are a tough act to follow; trying to compete on style is a losing proposition for Jeff.

All that said, how cool it is to be choosing among candidates, either one of which would be great for Oregon.

Wow, really unfunny - particularly in light of the recent Novick adds.

Buried for inaccuracy--The car in the background is also upside down.

Should have played it that Democrats have been playing too cautious when what is needed is a pedal to the metal, get out of my way or I'll run your ass over sort of message. I don't want to see my representation in Washington continue to sit on their hands. I've been up close and personal with a lot of folks missing body parts since 2003. I like both these guys. Which one is going to pound on the table and get noticed doing it? There is no magic that is going to make things better next year, it will be just a start. The years ahead or going to be tough.

The ad did get a demand for an apology letter from the chair of Marion CO. Republicans who said there should not be glorification of reckless driving or whatever.

This is my response to that request for an apology from the head of a local party which should do some apologizing of its own.

Vance Day should be talking about why Republicans should be elected. Or maybe he doesn't want Republicans currently in office to be held accountable for their behavior and is trying to distract voters.

As someone who remembers the Marion County Republicans back before the days when only Reaganites were welcomed; back in the days of common sense, well mannered, common sense Repulbicans like my State Rep. Norma Paulus, State Senator, Wally Carson, and Governors Tom McCall and Vic Atiyeh, I'm getting really tired of Republicans who think it is their job to criticize Democrats and then wonder why the number of non-affiliated voters keeps going up.

Here in Salem, there are places (esp. W. Salem) notorious for ice. On one of our really bad weather days, there was someone driving to work in a car with studded snow tires who thought he had stopped for a stop sign, but the car kept moving on the ice anyway.

How do we know a car on that stretch of road only going a few miles an hour wouldn't have slid on the ice? The Statesman Journal had a column from a local columnist saying that on snow and ice days (like when schools are closed) people worried about the drive in that weather should be allowed to telecommute if possible.

Vance Day was only taking a cheap snot against a Democratic candidate. He gave no reason why anyone should vote for a GOP candidate---and as local GOP chair, isn't his job to get candidates elected?

Humorous U-Tube releases are about raising name recognition, an immediate concern shared by the two Dem frontrunners vis a vis Smith.

I'm pleased that Jeff's out there with something that is both light and propels his core message.

A good start, especially for a guy who's running a special session in his spare time.......

Talk about making lemonade! Critics and those not living in glass houses should pull the sticks out of their assets.

Novick had a guy from MTV with him when he was last down in Medford campaigning and a guy making a documentary about his campaign was trailing him around too. Merkley shows up with with a little beat up cooler filled with healthy friuts and food and goes off to meet folks.

Oh oh, Torrid Joe is lurking...what will he find to defend this time?

    Paulie,

And the point of your comment was?

  • (Show?)

I'm just imagining the staff meeting at Merkley Central.

"Novick's got a funny video! WE need to get a funny video!"

    "I'm on it, boss!"

It's cute. The upside down typography at the end is my favorite part.

  • (Show?)

Ditto on the typography. It was a good touch.

"Oh oh, Torrid Joe is lurking...what will he find to defend this time?"

I thought it was cute. I put it up at LO...
