With any luck, the Ducks will win just before Obama's rally in Eugene.

He's coming at an auspicious time so soon after that excellent speach today.

I invite folks, after they go to the Obama event in the morning, to come to First Unitarian Church to hear NYTimes reporter David Cay Johnston speak about his latest book- Free Lunch: How the Wealthiest Americans Enrich Themselves at Government Expense (and Stick You With the Bill). This Friday. 7PM. SW 12th and Main. David is one of the finest economic reporters in the nation. He always has something interesting and important to say.

Are you all able to watch "Morning Joe" on the West Coast? Or does it come on too early in the morning? Anyway, it's good for quite a laugh -- of the Kubrickian variety. Scarborough has done nothing these past few weeks but rip into Barack. Even today, he was arguing that the speech won't help with the only voters who really matter, the so-called "Reagan Democrats."

The fact that, substantively, Obama gave one of the best political speeches in the last 40 years? Joe grudgingly acknowledged that much. He even said that our country will be better off in the long run because of that speech. But in the short run, argued Joe, we'll all be given "President McCain."

What a great show. Next time you get drunk and need to throw up, just tune in Joe Scarborough and let her rip. He makes me pine for the days that MSNBC televised Imus. Even overt racism is easier to take in the morning than what's on now.

If you haven't seen Senator Obama in person yet, you definitely will not want to miss it. Even if you are a diehard Clinton supporter, please attend if you can.

Obama is expected to speak in Medford. Details on where and when remain sketchy. News organizations are reporting his visit down here. The demand for information and tickets is amazing!

I think Obama should dump the Salem event and go to Bend!

I am upset I can't be in Oregon now. I was a student at UO in 2006 and I had to join the military just to be able to afford college. So now I am in Virginia. I really hope that you all get to enjoy seeing the greatest candidate for the American presidency in recent history.

I just stopped by the office and they are just getting things set up -- it's in the old Wild Oats store on Division. They need a lot of help right now...the more volunteers the better.

I am so excited it feels like I just drank 5 cups of coffee. I don't think I'm going to sleep until Friday...

It'll be great to see him in person. I'm taking my 17-year-old and my 10-year-old. Hopefully, it'll be something they remember as old men. Seeing a future president on the verge of winning the nomination, that's awesome!

I wish I didn't have to leave town on a business trip Friday at 7 AM because I'd love to go. Will someone please post the video of the rally somewhere so those of us who can't make it can watch?

Portland tickets are no longer available online, and the Obama office also said it is sold out! Not 24 hours after it was announced.

I'm bummed, was going to bring the kids.

Anyone have a lead on tickets?

  • (Show?)

I totally missed the deadline too. Can't believe it. Can you scalp free tickets?

  • (Show?)

The campaign still needs volunteers for the event, so please email [email protected] and include your name and phone number. That's a great way to get in. Volunteers for the event will need to commit to also doing a walk-through Thursday night. Good luck!

What the hell?! Is this like a Ticketmaster scam?? It's worse that seeing Springsteen!

  • (Show?)

Great, I just get the email from the Obama campaign. Hoping that maybe since I'm a donor and have backed him since LAST MAY that there's some secret stash, I clicked through: nada. Damn that everyman quality of his!

  • (Show?)

    And now this, via email:

***THANK YOU FOR SIGNING UP FOR THE WAITING LIST. THIS IS NOT A TICKET. TICKETS ARE REQUIRED TO GAIN ENTRY TO THE EVENT. ***

I'm sure there are people who signed up to go and won't make it due to whatever... their alarm didn't go off or something like that.

Wouldn't it be better if they had just done a first come first serve type of deal? Especially for those of us who actually get up at 5:30 a.m.? This is a total bummer!!!

If there are people out there scalping tickets for $$, I'll be pissed!

  • Kate (unverified)
    (Show?)

Wait, how can they be out of tickets? They say they won't start giving them out until 2!

I made the mistake of trying to find a babysitter first for my 16 month old daughter before signing up for an e-ticket. I should have just signed up when I found out about it at 8 this a.m. and worried about the babysitter later. After my husband volunteered to stay home from work, I signed up and got the message that Jeff posted about being wait listed.

    I'm totally bummed out!!!

I first saw Obama on c-span when he was running his primary campaign for the Dem. nomination for the US Senate race back in January of '04. I thought he was so impressive I immediately went to my computer and donated $25 to his campaign. I think he was running against four other candidates at the time... I don't recall.

I'm just bummin' big time here!

Is the Memorial Coliseum the largest venue available in Portland? Maybe the Obama campaign should see if they could fill a football stadium instead.

I'm going to try to get to Mac Court, but worried that it could get out of hand. There's fewer than 10,000 seats and I hope the crowd management people at UO have a strategy for dealing with two or three times that number of people in line.

  • (Show?)

Dont tell anyone (ha ha ha ha ha) but i was just at the division office buttering up the campaign director (FRUITLESS! THE TICKETS ARE NOT PHYSICALLY THERE!) and was told there will def. be tickets handed out at 2 pm.

BUT my son from Cleveland high school a few blocks away makes it sound like the whole damn school is heading over for tickets.

jeff, communicate w/ me via email if you are out of luck. i may have an extra or two. or i may be out of luck, too!

  • (Show?)

hey jeff, shouldn't we be able to get press credentials?

Now they're saying that tickets are only available through the office....So what happens to those of us who printed our tickets out earlier this week when they were available online?

  • Sande (unverified)
    (Show?)

I will be the one outside of Mac stadium handing out information about Hillary and why you should vote for her. Don't you think we need to have someone with years of experience as opposed to someone who has only been on the political front for maybe a decade?

  • (Show?)

    Update:

Tickets are limited to 2 per person. So if you need more, bring more people. For those with four kids, we can only hope they won't turn away the next generation of Democrats from the door!

The line currently stretches all the way around the block to Clinton (no pun intended) but is moving fast.

They are holding back some tickets until tomorrow.

Does anyone know who the staff people are at the Obama office? Are they local or from his national team? Paid or volunteers?

  • (Show?)

It's a mix and will continue to be a mix.

Jim just got in at the end of last week and now has rented space, is trying to stock said space with office gear, has the Friday events and a Saturday canvas to deal with.

I just got back from the new office about an hour ago and things are poppin'.

Oh, about the tickets. The whole point is that they get your info so they can follow up asking for volunteer help. If they just opened the doors and let people in, they'd be giving up one of their primary organizing tools.

Give 'em a break.....and Go Barack.

And if you have a good PC with a licensed copy of XP and service pack 2, they really need it.....

  • (Show?)

The volunteer outpouring for Friday's events have been overwhelming. Thank you very much to everyone's who's helped stepped up to make these events a success.

The events in Portland are at capacity, including the immediate need for volunteers. However, there will be an ongoing need for help. If you haven't signed up to get involved, please do so at dpo.org or directly at barackobama.com.

    Thanks again!

Does anyone know what age kids need to be to need a ticket? I want to take my 3 year old but didn't get a ticket for her when I got my this morning.

  • (Show?)

According to news reports, there were 11,000 tickets available online and a thousand or so available at the office.

People were just real quick to go and get theirs online. I know I went and got mine as soon as I got the first e-mail yesterday. Blog for Oregon, where I posted the item, got more than a thousand hits just on that one story. Not to mention the few hundred e-mails I got, the talk going around all the Obama Oregon/Portland e-mail lists, etc.

People have just been so excited here in Oregon that as soon as they heard something was happening, they jumped on it. We just have to give the staff a little while to get everything set up. I got a lot of complaints today about the lack of a campaign phone number to call. They just got the office and it takes a little time to get things like that set up. We're lucky to have an office here already.

Did anyone get an online ticket? I was sent the e-mail after signing up online and it doesn't seem very official -its basically just an e-mail saying this is my ticket. How early do you think people will start lining up in Portland on Friday morning?

  • (Show?)

C Williams We have the same question. We have been told and have heard that due to restrictions on the facility, they will need tickets. We are in the same boat, were hoping to take the family. We're hoping that my son the volunteer can score one more ticket. We have none to spare. But I may get one from another high school volunteer.

  • (Show?)

C Williams, try posting for a free ticket on craigslist. Some are available. Other folks are flagging all "scalpers" for removal by the way.

Eugene event "tickets" are still available online as of this moment, but it is actually a "first come" basis event. RE: the Obama headquarters on Division in Portland--will it remain open now until the election and can one purchase yard signs, buttons, bumper stickers, t-shirts and etc., do they have a phone number set up and what are their hours etc.???
