The first election of 2012: OR-01

The special election in Oregon's 1st Congressional District will be the first federal election of 2012, when it occurs on January 31st.  The special election was called after the resignation of former Representative David Wu following revelations of scandals in his personal life. Several Democratic elected officials got into the race, and the Republican who lost to Wu in 2010 as well.  That Republican, Rob Cornilles (pronounced as it looks, not like "Cornelius"), won the primary election in November, as did Democratic State Senator Suzanne Bonamici of Beaverton. Both major party nominees were strong and came out of crowded primaries with well over a majority of the vote.  Both have significant amounts of money.  The Republicans also insist that they have a chance now to take back the seat that Democrats have held for decades.  The local media tells us that the race is competitive. Lets take a look at the district and how competitive the race is.
