Tell George Bush: Stay out of the Northwest

Kari Chisholm FacebookTwitterWebsite

DarcyburnerGeorge Bush hasn't done a single fundraiser for any 2008 candidate yet. (No surprise, he's not exactly Mr. Popularity.)

But that changes next week - when he arrives Monday in Bellevue, Washington to support Congressman Dave Reichert (R). Why does Reichert want Bush's help? Because he's desperate.

He's desperate because Darcy Burner is running against Reichert again. In 2006, Democratic candidate Darcy Burner lost to Reichert by 7300 votes out of a quarter-million cast. It was one of the closest races in the country. And she's already running hard - with the support of her district and from netroots folks across the country.

So, here's what we're doing - straight from the HorsesAss.org, the famed Washington blog:

Reichert hopes to raise over half a million dollars from this $10,000/person event, but this is our opportunity to send a message Reichert and his fellow Republicans that toeing the Bush line on Iraq just won’t pay off. ... A coalition of national and local blogs is launching a coordinated drive to help Darcy counter the Bush visit. Our ambitious goal: $100,000 in netroots contributions to the Darcy Burner campaign between now and the end of the drive.

Sure it’s a lot of money, but money seems to be the only political currency Republicans understand. Reaching our target will not only send a strong message that we want our troops out of Iraq, it will also teach other Republicans that bringing in Bush isn’t worth the financial and political cost, thus neutralizing the GOP’s most effective fundraiser.

So, dig around in your couch, and find five bucks in change to send to Darcy Burner. Sure, she's up in Washington, but we need to send a strong signal about ending this War, and keeping Dubya out of the Northwest.

Correction: This is Bush's first fundraiser for a House candidate. Previously, he showed up in Minnesota to help Senator Norm Coleman.

Also Done. I appreciate hearing about close races where a few bucks can make the difference.

    Done.

    Darcy is fantastic.

Steve and I got a chance to meet her at Yearly Kos and I'm sure she is going to win this one if we all do our part!

I first had the privilege of meeting Darcy in early 2006 at a conference for Pac. NW bloggers held in Washington State. She'll be a wonderful congresswoman for that district.

I had the chance to reintroduce myself to Darcy this year at YearlyKos (as well as reacquaint myself with Lynn, her netroots/volunteer coordinator). They're such an amazing team.

I'm proud to give Darcy's campaign a boost any time.

If I'm Darcy I'd welcome Bush to Washington...and over to Reichert's house. Like Ari Fleischer running ads against Smith that helpfully remind us about this dumbass war, my reaction to having George Bush fundraise for my opponent would be, "Yes, please."

    Worth supporting Darcy, though.

Oregon was a Republic, encompassing all of the Colombia drainage, before it was a "state". Ain't nothing east of The Rockies we need.

    Stay out? Stay out???

What the heck are you thinking about Kari? All I want for Christmas is a big fat photo of good ol' George with his arms around this Congressman Reichert, preferably with him planting a kiss on him like he did Lieberman and Crown Prince Abdullah.

In fact, I want everyone to see it. Maybe the good Congressman can put his meeting with the President on T.V.? That sounds like a good idea to me!

This video of Reichert really needs to be seen to be believed:

SAVE DEMOCRACY, VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT!!

I have a broke leg, and two kids school age, and I would be delighted to join anyone going to Bellevue to stand in protest against Bush's influence in the Northwest.

The reminder of him flogging his idea of responsible land management during our fire season, and Karl Rove's policy peddling to get Gordon Smith elected at the expensive of the salmon run, as well as the issue of responsible damming of the Columbia/Snake Rivers are only a few of the issues!

U.S. Attoreny being fired for not siding with the Republicans in going on a Voters Fraud Witch-Hunt in the last state election for governor!

    Happy Thoughts;

    Dan Grady

Thanks I linked over to her site. Her biography tells a compelling story of family hardship brought on by her sister's illness. I've asked if she could tell me how a military retiree and WEA represented teacher could run up large medical bills in western Washington. I have the best wishes for her sister, but kind of wonder how having access to two quality health care delivery systems could run up bills in a large proportion. If I get an answer I'll be sure to let folks know.
