Day 3 - Where's Gordo? "Friends" Edition
Okay, we know that Gordo traveled a few hundred feet from his gated compound near Pendleton to what looks to have been a nearly empty coffee shop in Pendleton yesterday.
The courage it took to face a friendly audience of (two?) neighbors boggles the mind...
The Statesman-Journal reports that Smith apparently has an ambitious schedule of "campaigning across the state" - Pendleton, Portland, Hood River and Wallowa. Although the news came via email from spokeswoman Gilbride and there is no confirmation that I'm aware of.
Oh, those wily Republicans and their technicalities. The alleged four-stop campaign "across the state" is literally just that - four stops across the Northern edge of Oregon. Only one of which is West of the Cascades. With only slightly more creative thinking he could have avoided Oregon altogether by skirting the Southern edge of Washington.
So Gordo is avoiding his "good friend" John McCain like the black plague so that he could skirt part way across one edge of Oregon?
There seems to be an object lesson here.
Gordo tossed his friend under the bus for political advantage. If that's how he treats a friend, just imagine how readily he'd toss Oregonians under a bus for political advantage... once safely past another election, of course.

I called Gordon's office and was told "we don't have his schedule handy", but that the scheduler would call me back. No word since then (two days ago).
Kevin is making a good point by asking where this campaigning is taking place. As citizens of Oregon, we have a right to know where we can hear what our senator has to say in person, not just his 30 second ads that, as yet, have contained absolutely no substantive content about what he believes or plans to do for our state.

I was just trying to remember when I last saw the good Senator in person....hmmmmmm...... five? No, six years ago, can't remember the event (I was protesting, he was going inside).
Anybody else? When did you last lay eyes on our Republican Senator (in person, not on tv)?

Interesting that Gilbride says that Smith is going to campaign in Portland when the campaign office says that he's not going to be in Portland at all. And that he'll be going back to D.C. next week.
