John Lim declares himself eligible for statehood

Kari Chisholm FacebookTwitterWebsite

OK, a little Friday afternoon snark.

Not content any longer with trying to create a Lieutenant Governorship position, John Lim has declared himself eligible for statehood.

Check it out:

“Between my 35 years experience as a business owner, and 4 terms as a legislator, I am uniquely qualified to be the next Oregon.”

I think that means Chris Dudley will be the next California.

State of Confusion seems more appropos.

OT: Any chance of getting some of the HTML formatting tags active, such as bold, italic, and blockquote?

    • (Show?)

I think they do work now

Any chance of getting some of the HTML formatting tags active, such as bold, italic, and blockquote?
      • (Show?)

They don't show up in preview, but they do work

        • (Show?)

The FB API is really inconsistent.

I just discovered that you can use the API secret key from one app, with the cross domain receiver page of another, to fire up the second. That isn't supposed to happen!

But don't wish them luck. Last guy that did that got banned. Why don't you join the enlighten ranks of the racists that make fun of his name (Kari)?

        • (Show?)

Ah. I saw them not show up in preview, so I removed them.

Lim would make a much better oregon leader than any of those piece of garbage liberals Kitzhaber or Bradbury.

    • (Show?)

You've really shown your hand, letting cut and paste commenting continue, while banning every dissenting progressive.

This is impossible to read, as I type, because the ads overlap the page.

      • (Show?)

For the record, we haven't banned anyone (yet) who is using his or her real name - regardless of political views. We've had one particularly aggressive sockpuppet gin up a bunch of fake facebook profiles, but that's pretty easily spotted.

    • (Show?)

      Liberal garbage?

      Charming.

  • (Show?)

So, Asian-American John Lim, candidate for Governor gets teased for a minor grammatical error on his web site, when it is clear what he meant when taken in context. Picking on the fact that English is not his native language, perhaps?

Is this the progressive way? Do any other candidates you support have any issues with the spoken or written word? Ever made a mistake when creating their web-sites?

This is a real cheap shot and beneath you, even with the disclaimer. It shows an unwillingness and inability to address the valid points Lim has made as a candidate, as well as his contributions to Oregon.

I'm not a Lim supporter, but this kind of snark diminishes what you are trying to do with Blue Oregon. Sure, there are pros and cons to what Lim brings to the debate, just as there are with any candidate.

At least he is a candidate who is putting his whole heart into the campaign.

  • (Show?)

Lim probably is writing his own material for the web site, and yeah, I think this kind of snark aimed at a non-native English speaker is pretty lowbrow.

I don't know much with Lim's politics other than he's a Republican who was endorsed by Right to Life, but you've got to respect a guy who immigrates here, builds a moderately successful small business, and spends his retirement looking to serve in public office.

    • (Show?)

No I don't. Not if I don't agree in the slightest with what he would do were the citizens of Oregon misguided enough to grant him his wish.

    • (Show?)

Nice to see a standup guy who also happens to be a politician =) It really is refreshing to see a measure of respect afforded to an immigrant that pursues his dreams. Bravo Zulu Sal.

      Cheers.

    • (Show?)

If Lim is writing and managing his own websites content, then that is a strike against him as far as being unable to manage his time effectively and/or delegating responsibilities to others to manage.

  • (Show?)

Oh, puh-leez. Lim and all of his non-positions are so unworthy of serious discussion that it seems to me Kari's doing him a favor by upping his Google rankings, if ever so slightly.

Oh, and Matthew, wasn't this new Facebook regimen supposed to spare us drivel from the likes of you?

Wait, I think we've found a fatal flaw! The Achilles Heel of Blue Oregon! Douche-bags who aren't afraid to put their names and faces to their own douche-baggery can post away! Curses! If only they had a little more self-respect.

(Uh, if they had a little more self-respect, they'd be neither douche-bags, nor Republicans! Bah-dump-bump.)

    Thank you. Thankyouverymuch.

  • (Show?)

There isn't any way to vote down or hide-rate douchebag comments? Bit of a shame.

    • (Show?)

Actually, the way forward is to up-rate the good stuff. So far, doesn't look like many folks are availing themselves of the like button.

Over time, we'll be able to roll out new features that auto-collapse low-rated commenters, but that requires folks using the up-rating system.

(And no, we're not going to create a "dislike" button -- that just generates stupid comment wars, as happened in 2008 with the Oregon Reddit.)

  • (Show?)

Ok let's keep one thing clear with the liberal garbage comments. These people are not liberals. Look up the word liberal and liberty and then go down the line of every policy they believe in and see if it matches up. Jefferson and Paine were liberals these people do not believe in those principles of individual rights. To them, rights depend on what the voters say.

  • (Show?)

I'm with Sal on this. Making fun of John Lim is below the belt by any standard. I'm almost inclined to suspect Kari was just doing this to prove to Nigel Jaquiss that he doesn't only attack candidates his clients are afraid to face.

    • (Show?)

Let me make sure I understand the rules you're suggesting. I'm allowed to make fun of candidates who do dumb things UNLESS that candidate happens to be Asian-American?

      Sorry, but no.

And btw, I posted this item three days after it went up -- and two days later, five days in total, it's still up.

That's just incompetence on the part of his staff.

  • (Show?)

Kari - I realize that your post is more about pointing out a lack of professional standards among opposing campaigns than anything else, but one big reason I don't like it is that growing up I got to see people mock my grandparents and some of my other relatives in a similar fashion. I imagine there are others who have similar feelings. I'm surprised that you'd be tone deaf to the concern.

    • (Show?)

So you grandparents were mocked for not having a competent staff managing their campaign website's content?

    • (Show?)

Again, so it's OK to criticize the words of a gubernatorial candidate unless that candidate happens to be Asian-American?

Sorry, no. It's not like I'm picking on some poor immigrant -- the man has served in office for years, is running for Governor, has raised tens of thousands of dollars, and has a professional campaign staff.

  • (Show?)

you know what i like about john lim unlike any of the liberal candidates.lim has actually came to my house in the past and actually talked to me about important issues.mr lim is a very nice wonderful man.when is the last time any democrat leader actually took the time to go out in the private sector and actually talk to norman citizens?

    • (Show?)

If you are referring to Democratic (there is no such thing as a Democrat party) candidates for office talking to "normal" citizens, they do so every election cycle.

  • (Show?)

john lim actually goes out in the -private sector and talks to normal citizens like me.im sorry mr jay cosnett you dont like someone like me who has a right wing point of view and dont fall for the same old tired liberal dribel about how poor the state govt and schools always are.i have a right to my opinion too mr cosnett whether you like it or not.
